BUILDING GREEN FOR 25 YEARS

Enercept Inc. is celebrating 25 years of business this June.

Research and development for the Enercept system began in 1979. In 1981, Enercept built its first home. The Enercept building was completed and general operations began in June of 1982. In 1995 Enercept implemented a state-of –the-art production line and a 24,000 square foot addition was added, doubling the plant size. These improvements have positioned Enercept to produce one thousand homes per year.

Enercept, who specializes in the custom home market, has become one of the world’s leading manufacturers of structural insulated panels shipping to more than 35 states. Enercept has also exported panels to Japan and Spain.

In 1997 Enercept became involved in a 10-year project to produce structural insulated panels for the National Science Foundation in Antarctica. The facility is self-sustaining and includes a movie theatre, grocery store and housing area. “The Antarctic project has helped elevate our company,” says senior regional sales manager, Neal Mack. “We are multi-faceted and the project has added instant credibility. We have solidified ourselves as one of the big players in the market.”

A recent Builder News Magazine survey, listed Enercept as one of the top three recognized brands of structural insulated panels.

Future plans include transitioning from a consumer driven to a dealer driven sales strategy. “We are going to focus more effort on developing relationships with builders, contractors and developers.” states Enercept President, Alan Case. “With rising energy, labor and lumber prices we anticipate gaining a greater share of the [custom home] market in the future.”

Building with structural insulated panels is good for the environment. The average Enercept home uses 50% less energy than a conventionally framed home. Enercept SIPS are made with oriented strand board (OSB) skins (made from fast growth replaceable tree crops) and an expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulating core. All waste from the EPS is recycled for reuse in products such as our basement panels. The customized nature of the Enercept system virtually eliminates job site waste. Also, Enercept panels do not produce any harmful off gassing.

Enercept owes its success to its founders and the competence of its staff, whose dedication and teamwork speaks for itself in the quality service and products they provide. This dedication is rewarded by the loyalty of their customers and colleagues, whose support gives them the opportunity to realize their goals.
